Basic Education Training of South Africa Civil Nuclear Energy Training Program has been successfully concluded
On August 13th, 2015, graduation ceremony of South Africa Civil Nuclear Energy Training Program, hosted by State Nuclear Power Technology Corporation (hereafter referred to as “SNPTC”), was held in SNERDI, Shanghai, which symbolized the basic education training of this program has been successfully concluded.
50 South African trainees graduated with outstanding marks after 4 months’ training. SNPTC set up prizes for the best papers and the best trainees, and awarded these prizes for excellent trainees in this graduation ceremony. Mr. Wang Binghua, Chairman of State Power Investment Corporation (SPIC) and SNPTC, and Ms. Ma Lu, Vice President of SPIC, attended graduation ceremony.
South Africa Civil Nuclear Energy Training Program includes basic education, professional and on-the-job training. 50 people from government department and nuclear power corporation of South Africa as the first trainees receives 4 months’ basic education training in Beijing and Shanghai. The training contents covers the 3rd generation NPP’s design, purchase, manufacturing, construction, commissioning, operation, maintenance and project management.
To ensure training quality, SNPTC united with Tsinghua University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University and National Nuclear Safety Center to designated 41 experts and engineers as trainers. In this 4 months, trainees completed all courses equivalent to two semesters’ courses in university, and systematically learnt 18 basic education courses about nuclear power. Besides, trainees deeply exchanged with Chinese senior experts of nuclear power by lectures, which broadened their horizon as well as let them learn more state-of-the-art technologies.
To deepen knowledge of nuclear power industrial chain, SNPTC arranged these trainees to have further exchange with experts and technical personnel in research and development, design, manufacturing, construction and operation units including Tsinghua University, SNERDI, SNPDRI, SNPAS, SNPEMC, Shanghai Electric and Shanghai Power, as well as AP1000 NPP and CAP1400 NPP site.
The South Africa Civil Nuclear Energy Training Program, as an important part of China-South Africa energy cooperation, has been paid high attention to and has been greatly supported by government, enterprises and universities of the two countries. In February 2014, SNPTC and South African Nuclear Energy Corporation (NECSA) signed the agreement on Training Program for South African Civil Nuclear Energy Projects. In December 2014, SNPTC and NECSA signed implementation plan of this agreement at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. According to this training agreement, SNPTC will train nuclear technical and management staffs to meet the needs of talent localization for South Africa’s nuclear new build program.
